The return of the Balay Lama: Candy Shaw joins Tabatha Coffey as second Hair Expo Australia headliner

The world’s favourite hair painter is coming back to Hair Expo Australia! After bringing her unstoppable energy and leading skills in balayage to Melbourne for Hair Expo 2018; Candy Shaw, AKA the Balay Lama, will return to Australia for the 2019 event held over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in Sydney.

Candy said she is looking forward to coming to Sydney to teach hairdressers her “tips, tricks, tools and techniques in how to do wonderful commercial balayage.”

“They call me the Balay Lama here in America and I’m going to bring some of my fundamental education to you in the classroom... I am so excited to come and see you guys in Australia!” said Candy. She added that headlining Hair Expo 2018 in Melbourne was “one of my greatest experiences”.

Hair professionals will have the opportunity to see Candy in a live creative session, and can get hands-on in two balayage workshops. With balayage continuing to be one of the most in-demand colouring services for salons, hairdressers will learn leading skills in the technique that they can use to grow their business.

Candy has become a force in the international hairdressing industry with her dedicated balayage products and education offering. She is the daughter of former world champion competition hairdresser Jamison Shaw, and was brought up surrounded by hairdressing royalty including Vidal Sassoon, Paul Mitchell and AVEDA founder Horst Rechelbacher. She trained in Paris, specialising in balayage and French haircutting; and in 2018 she was named North American Educator of the Year by Intercoiffure America/Canada.

Candy joins hairdressing celebrity and Hair Expo favourite Tabatha Coffey as the second of Hair Expo’s three international headliners for 2019, with the third to be revealed shortly.

Tabatha is best-known for her salon-takeover television show Tabatha Takes Over, and will be returning to Sydney for the first time since 2015 at the industry’s ‘Festival of Hair’. At Hair Expo 2019, Tabatha will be running six one-on-one coaching sessions, as well as two small group sessions for a maximum of 20 people – all of which are expected to sell out quickly.

Ticket sales for Hair Expo will open in early March 2019. Those who are interested in attending are encouraged to pre-register at www.hairexpoaustralia.com to be among the first to receive updates about the event.
