Hairdressers across Australia and New Zealand get set – the most prestigious hairdressing awards in the region are here again. Last year the competition was as fierce as ever and it’s going to be just as tough in 2011, with all categories open to New Zealand entrants (except Australian Hairdresser of the Year).
Aussie hairdressers will see strong competition from across the Tasman as the awards open today, bringing the most creative and innovative hairdressing talent to Sydney. With the pressure on, Hair Expo expects another set of outstanding submissions as entrants vie for one of the 14 prestigious awards up for grabs.
Introduced in 2010, the People’s Choice Award will once again open judging up to the voting public, as they decide which photographic collection is their favourite over the exhibition weekend. Slightly updated for 2011, the Entrepreneur of the Year award is now the Business Performance of the Year award, putting stronger emphasis on team achievements, and Excellence in Marketing has been amended to include the implementation of successful social media campaigns.
The judging process is tighter this year too, with more enforcement of colour control from the 20-strong independent panel of Australian and New Zealand industry experts.
To help entrants with their submissions, Events Co-ordinator Libby Brooks-Molloy is prepared to answer any queries about the awards and a ‘top tips’ section for entrants can be found on the Hair Expo website. Containing a wealth of information on entering, the site includes clear guidelines for each category and best practice from previous winners. In November, a video will feature on the Hair Expo website with the judges talking through what makes or breaks a winning submission.
Now in its 26th year, the Hair Expo Awards are the longest running hairdressing awards in the Southern Hemisphere. Schwarzkopf Professional became the exclusive sponsor in 2009 and is continuing its sponsorship for 2011.
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday 8 March 2011 at 5pm. Once preliminary judging has been completed, the finalists in the Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards 2011 will be announced at a cocktail reception on 29 March 2011.
Winners across all categories will be announced at a gala dinner held during Hair Expo Australia, at the Sydney Convention Centre on Monday 13 June. The awards show is unquestionably our hairdressing industry’s night of nights and is the culmination of three days of Hair Expo over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend starting Saturday 11 June.
