Entries for the nation’s most prestigious industry awards, the Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards are open to the Australian and New Zealand hairdressing industry.
Submissions will be accepted until 5pm on Wednesday 22 February, 2012. Then, once preliminary judging has been completed, the finalists will be announced at a cocktail reception in March.
In its 27th year – and with categories open to both sides of the Tasman since 2010 – competition has become increasingly fierce. Each year has seen the quality and originality of awards submissions increase, as stylists compete to produce the most creative and innovative work.
To assist entrants, Hair Expo has enlisted some of the most successful snippers in the business to share their awards top tips. A video featuring previous years’ judges will be available to view (on the Hair Expo website from October) exploring what makes and breaks a submission. Here, entrants can also find a wealth of information on entering, clear guidelines for each category and best practice from past winners.
2011 saw previous two-time winner, Jayne Wild of Sydney’s Wild Life salon, crowned Australian Hairdresser of the Year for a record third time – the first female to achieve this.
Of the award, Jayne said: "To have your name called out as the winner of Australian Hairdresser of the Year is the most surreal feeling ever. It's truly amazing – what an honour. The feeling of being chosen by my peers to represent our industry can never be put into words. It's always great just to be a finalist, but to win, well I can't find the words to describe it.
"I've been entering this category for 15 years. I started entering to share my work with the industry – never to win, that was always beyond my wildest dreams – and I still have that at the back of my mind each year I enter. I felt it was not only my duty to share what I did with everyone, but I also used it as a guide for the things I would need to do to improve my team, my business and myself. That’s allowed me to grow and make those improvements, and the rewards I’ve reaped from winning are just the cream on top!"
The annual awards at Hair Expo are the longest running and most respected hairdressing awards in the Southern Hemisphere, setting the industry standard for the region. Schwarzkopf Professional became the exclusive sponsor in 2009 and is continuing its sponsorship for 2012.
Winners across all categories will be announced at the awards gala held during the Hair Expo long weekend, at the Sydney Convention Centre on Monday 11 June, 2012. The awards gala is unquestionably our hairdressing industry’s night of nights and is the culmination of three days of Hair Expo over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
