Hair Expo brings the world to your doorstep

16 Feb 2011

In 2011, Hair Expo Australia is bringing the world’s top names in hairdressing to Sydney. Watch, meet and be inspired by the wealth of brands, entrepreneurs and visiting artists, making up one of the strongest line-ups ever.

Sold out exhibition

On the exhibition floor, 2011 is another year of the big names, including Schwarzkopf Professional, AVEDA, TIGI, ghd, Goldwell, Matrix, Moroccan Oil, Redken, L’Oreal Professionnel, La Biosthetique, Kevin Murphy, Fashion TV & Bodyography, Excellent Edges, Napoleon, Comfortel, Joiken, Dateline and many more. Following the success of the 2010 show, the floor space is nearly sold out four months before the Expo doors open.

And on top of the demonstrations on the stands, there is also non-stop free education on two Hair Expo stages, and a meet-and-greet with the 2011 finalists in the Awards Gallery lounge.

World class education

Some of the biggest international icons of the craft are descending on Hair Expo 2011, such as AVEDA’s Global Artistic Director, Antoinette Beenders, the Sassoon Global Artistic Team, and Redken’s Global Artistic Director, Sam Villa. Alongside them, Australian favourites Sharon Blain, Jayne Wild, Lee Preston, and Pivot Point will be sharing their globally revered creativity at seminars and workshops over the Expo weekend.

For young stylists, the Look ‘n’ Learn Program offers a wealth of creative inspiration with a top line-up of award winners from Australia and abroad, including Toni&Guy, NZ hairdresser of the year Mana Dave and the UK F.A.M.E. Team, mentored by Errol Douglas MBE. Live competitions are open for stylists wanting to take the challenge on the spot and the two days of jam-packed sessions are included in one amazing pass.

The business program opens with the Goldwell-sponsored Building Better Business Breakfast on Sunday morning, followed by an up close and personal lunch with the founder of TIGI and worldwide creative legend, Anthony Mascolo. During the afternoon, globally renowned Alan Austin Smith will share his secrets to success in “Fantastic Hairdresser” and Ian Stephen’s session will tackle how to manage and motivate Gen Y. On Monday, visitors can expect a profitable insight into the minds of the female consumer, with author Amanda Stevens’ seminar “What Women Want and Why Women Buy”.

Unequaled inspiration

The Hair Expo Gala nights are Australia’s most spectacular hair shows, where 1,300 guests per night come to watch hundreds of models and dancers taking part in the awe-inspiring catwalk shows.

Opening this year’s events is the much anticipated performance of five-time Australian Hairdresser of the Year, Shane Henning, on Saturday night. The main act of that night will be Antoinette Beenders, known for her fiercely original, conceptual and imaginative work. One of the industry’s most highly regarded stylists and with a list of celebrity clients as long as her impressive resume, Antoinette’s skills have been honed during hundreds of editorial shoots and runway shows throughout her career, for designers such as Prada, Miu Miu and Dolce & Gabbana, to name but a few.

Sunday night’s GenerationNext gala kicks off with a series of ten platform shows, showcasing the hottest young talents of tomorrow. One of the icons of modern hairdressing, Anthony Mascolo, will then take the stage to end the night on a high with his show stopping main act. Anthony has the reputation for being able to truly unify hair and fashion in both photographic collections and on the catwalk, where directional runway looks collide with avant-garde artistic creations. Having previously graced the stage at Hair Expo, Anthony’s shows are multi-sensory experiences that have captivated audiences worldwide.

Then on Monday night, the 2011 Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards show wraps up the long weekend with a bang. The pinnacle of the Australian hairdressing calendar, these are the region’s longest running and most prestigious awards - always a night not be missed.
