The ultimate accolade in the Australian and NZ hairdressing industries: 2011 Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards finalists announced Who will be crowned the winners this year?

Finalists in the 2011 Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards were announced on Tuesday 29th March during an elegant cocktail reception at Blue Hotel, Woolloomooloo, Sydney.

More than 200 of the hair industry’s most influential personalities browsed the breathtaking photographic collections in Hair Expo’s purpose built gallery before the announcement of the finalists in the 2011 awards.

Now in their 26th year, the awards at Hair Expo have always attracted the cream of Australia and New Zealand’s hairdressing crop. As the longest running and most respected hair awards in the Southern Hemisphere, they set the industry standard in both countries and help to promote the outstanding achievements of the industry’s top talents.

A 20-strong panel of independent industry experts from both Australia and New Zealand spent two full days scrutinising over 150 entries to reach the finalist selection. Six finalists were announced for the top prize of Australian Hairdresser of the Year:

  • Frank Apostolopoulos from Biba, Fitzroy, VIC
  • Damien Rinaldo from Hair Machine, Norwood, SA
  • Hilda Santalucia from Biba, South Yarra, VIC
  • Joey Scandizzo from Rokk Ebony, South Yarra, VIC
  • Craig Smith from Fruition, Brisbane, QLD
  • Jayne Wild from Wild Life Hair, Milsons Point, NSW

Australian Hairdresser of the Year is the most coveted of the awards at Hair Expo, representing the pinnacle of the Australian hairdressing industry.

The judges’ final decision is based on a number of contributing factors ranging from the entrant’s photographic collection to their integrity, peer recognition, entrepreneurial success, education and contribution to the advancement of the industry. Finalists in other categories include current New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year, Mana Dave, and Colour Technician of the Year, Kristina Russell, both up for their awards again this year; Jayne Wild is chasing her third Australian Hairdresser of the Year award, while her Wild Life Hair team is up for Salon Team of the Year and new Milson’s Point salon for Salon Design. Both Hilda Santalucia and Joey Scandizzo are also finalists in the Photographic Collection of the Year category.

Other awards up for grabs are for New Creative Force and Excellence in Marketing as well as Session Stylist; Apprentice/Student; Business Performance; Education Organisation and Educator of the Year.

The grand finale of the annual Hair Expo weekend sees winners of the 2011 Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards announced at a gala extravaganza – unquestionably the hairdressing industry’s night of nights – at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre on the evening of Monday June 13. The awards show is the culmination of three days of unrivalled education and inspiration over the Hair Expo long weekend starting Saturday June 11.
