Rules & Regulations

1. Entrants must have worked in Australian & New Zealand Hairdressing and related industries from March 2009 to March 2010 (awards period). They must also have documentation of their qualification available on request.

2. All award categories are open to Australian and New Zealand salons, except Australian Hairdresser of the Year and New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year as indicated.

3. Submissions will only qualify when completed on the Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards Questionnaire template following all rules and regulations as indicated.

4. Photography must be produced in the awards period – March 2009 to March 2010. This photography must not have been published prior to preliminary judging on 22 March 2010, except for Session Hair Stylist category and Best New Salon Design.

5. All of the work submitted for the Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards must be solely the work of the entrant, except where specified. A statutory declaration will need to be signed by all entrants.

6. All work is accepted in good faith and any entrants found to be abusing this will be automatically disqualified.

7. You may enter as many categories as you like (dependent on qualifications), however you may only enter one of the following: Australian and/or New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year OR New Creative Force.

8. The photography submitted for your awards collection, or any photographs from the same photo shoot MUST NOT appear anywhere in the QUESTIONNAIRE, unless requested. This does not apply to the Session Hair Stylist category.

9. Not all categories require artistic photography, so ensure that you read the submission questions carefully in order to meet the correct criteria.

10. The model release and relevant declaration forms must be completed and signed by all parties and be included in your submission.

11. The deadline for entries is final. Entries will NOT be accepted after the stated date and time and instant disqualification will apply. Submissions due 5pm, Tuesday 9 March 2010.

12. Entries not meeting the stipulated criteria will automatically be disqualified.

13. It is your responsibility to package your submission properly so that it is not damaged in the courier or postage system. Hair Expo Australia accepts no responsibility for submissions which may become lost in the mail and will not be liable for any loss or damage to submissions.

14. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

15. Any nominee who is disqualified will be notified.

16. No employees of Reed Exhibitions, Hair Expo Australia or families can enter or judge the Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards.

17. Finalists’ photographic work in each category will be displayed at Hair Expo, 12 - 14 June 2010 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.

18. Ten finalists will be selected for Australian Hairdresser of the Year and four finalists will be selected in all other categories, unless the judges deem that four do not qualify. In addition, six special Judges’ Recognition Awards will be selected in the categories of Apprentice/Student of the Year, New Creative Force and Colour Technician of the Year.

19. Finalists will be notified and published on www.hairexpoaustralia.com

20. If you require your submission to be returned, you must supply a self-addressed, Australia Post ‘Express Post – Guaranteed Next Day Delivery’ satchel, which is large enough for your submission. New Zealand entries please enclose a pre-paid international courier satchel (DHL recommended). Submissions will be returned after 15 June 2010. If you do not include this satchel in your submission package, your submission will NOT be returned. Hair Expo will retain submissions for 3 months only, after which they will regretfully be destroyed.

21. Hair Expo Australia reserves the right to publish photography for publicity purposes.

22. Entry to the Awards Gala Dinner is strictly by ticket only.

The Questionnaire

23. Entrants MUST complete the answers on the template provided. Entrants will receive an email with the template once your nomination form has been received. The questionnaire must be completed in full to qualify.

24. Your submission must be completed and bound into one booklet, no larger than A4 in size. Your submission must be presented on the questionnaire template provided by Hair Expo including supporting documentation.

25. When illustrating the work you have published, do not include in your submission any photos that are not your own work (e.g. magazine covers) or your photographic collection, unless requested. All photos used must be accompanied by correct credits and date of publication.

26. Testimonials must be supplied on letterhead, where applicable, and cannot be from a representative of a product company.

The Photographic Collection

27. You are required to submit one set of six photographic prints, except for the Entrepreneur of the Year, Educator of the Year, Education Organisation of the Year and Salon Marketing awards. Best New Salon Design submissions must submit two sets of prints, one set to be mounted on cardboard for viewing in the gallery (specs below).The other set will remain with your questionnaire as an attachment for the judging process. This set must not be mounted.

28. Colour Technician of the Year – wigs and hairpieces are NOT allowed in this category. A statutory declaration to confirm no wigs or hair pieces were used is required. A ‘before shot’ of all models is to be submitted with your submission.

29. The photographs should include a minimum of four different models with a variation in styling represented throughout the six shots to form a collection.

30. Professional photographers, makeup artists and stylists may be used.

31. Images do not have to be head and shoulders but they do need to focus on the hair.

32. All images should be shot as one collection, with new season directional hair fashion as the underlying focus.

33. Photographs may be black and white or colour except for Colour Technician of the Year where only colour images are accepted. The hair should be commercial, wearable and reflect emerging hair fashion trends.

34. As the photography is judged anonymously, no branding is permitted in the photograph, except for Best New Salon Design and Session Hair Stylist of the Year.

35. All photographs must be A4 in size presented on mount cardboard exactly to the print trim. No mount cardboard border, 3mm max thickness – NO FOAM CORE, WOOD, CORE FLUTE OR MDF).

36. All photographs must be portrait in format, except Best New Salon Design which must be ALL landscape or ALL portrait.

37. Full photography credits are to be provided on a label on the back of the mount board i.e. the category entered, hairstylist, colourist, makeup artist, and photographer and number each photograph in the preferred order of display.

38. Include one CD of your photographic collection in high resolution 300 dpi RGB & CMYK JPEG format plus your photography credits in a word document. Clearly mark the CD with your details plus thumbnails of your collection on the CD Cover. Include your name on the digital file codes for easy identification e.g. 1-Jane_Smith.jpg, 2-Jane_Smith.jpg, etc. The CD will be kept by Hair Expo Australia for use in publicity for your
collection.

Deadline for award submissions

All submissions must be submitted by 5pm on 9 March 2010. We will not be accepting any entries submitted after this time and date.
