The Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards are Open to Australian and New Zealand Salons

Australian Hairdresser of the Year

The winner of this category will be the person who demonstrates excellence in creativity and salon leadership, team work, business acumen, client management, industry development, an image maker and recognised amongst peers. This award is open to qualified hairdressers who must have practised hairdressing consistently in an Australian Salon for the entire awards period.

2009 Winner: Caterina DeBiase, Heading Out Hair & Beauty

New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year

The winner of this category will be the person who demonstrates excellence in creativity and salon leadership, team work, business acumen, client management, industry development, an image maker and recognised amongst peers. This award is open to qualified hairdressers who must have practised hairdressing consistently in a New Zealand Salon for the entire awards period.

2009 Winner: Adrian Barclay, Venom

Apprentice/Student of the Year

The winner of this category is the apprentice/student who is a stand out representative of new generation talent,working in a salon and attending TAFE or a government approved private institution. Quality of work and consistency in salon performance combined with initiative and innovation are key drivers to be the best nationally. You must be an apprentice/student for approximately 70% of the awards period.

2009 Winner: Alexandra Kontos, Nischler 

Salon Team of the Year

The winner of this category is the salon team that demonstrates and provides evidence that the entire team has the desire for training and ongoing development, a strong salon team image, leaders in creative direction and a winning spirit. The photographic submission can be photographed as a stand alone collection or a combination of images from current submissions to form “a collection”. This award is open to one individual salon and NOT a salon group. 50% of the team must have been working together in the salon for the entire awards period.

2009 winner: Wild Life Hair

Colour Technician of the Year

The winner of this category will be the person who demonstrates technical excellence, promotion of technical services, management of the salon’s colour department and profitability which are all significant to this award. All photography must represent the true result of the colour service. This award is open to qualified hairdressers who must have practised hairdressing consistently in a salon for the entire awards period.

2009 Winner: Jacen Ward, TONI&GUY

New Creative Force

The winner of this category will not only be a successful stylist but will also have achieved professional and creative recognition. You must be a qualified hairdresser who has not exceeded ten years experience beyond the conclusion of your apprenticeship and have practised hairdressing consistently in a salon for the entire awards period.

2009 Winner: Jason Fassbender, Parlour Hair

Session Hair Stylist of the Year

Session styling presents the cutting edge looks in hair on the catwalk and in fashion shoots, representing the latest trends and innovative creations. The Session Hair Stylist of the Year has demonstrated the ability to create fashion forward hair within a session photography environment, creating the ultimate image for the end result and satisfying the client he/she is working for.

2009 Winner: Benn Jae, Look Production & Management

Education Organisation of the Year*

The winning organisation of this category will have contributed significantly to education and training innovation, raising the skills base, motivating the talent of today and tomorrow and elevating the public value of hairdressing.

2009 Winner: Mirella Heuperman, BIBA

Educator of the Year

The winner of this category will have shown an outstanding individual commitment to education within our industry. Their training concepts have proven outcomes in growing the skill level and motivation of others. Their talent, willingness to share and sense of responsibility make them true ambassadors and are a source of inspiration for their students and peers.

2009 Winner: Sharon Blain, Art of Hair

Entrepreneur of the Year

The winner of this category is a person who demonstrates an outstanding entrepreneurial performance and success in business. The award is open to those who have created and implemented a business idea relevant to the salon industry including a strong salon brand, salon concept, a unique product line, education, consultancy or IT services.

2009 Winner: Dennis Langford, TONI&GUY

Excellence in Salon Marketing

In challenging times a successful marketing strategy can make the difference between customers coming to your salon, not your competitors. The winner will have demonstrated innovative and distinct marketing with proven results. This could not only apply to the overall campaign but
may, for example, be a new initiative which brought in a new customer base or the implementation of a successful social media campaign.

2009 Winner: Dennis Langford, TONI&GUY

Best New Salon Design

The winner of this category is the salon that provides a functional and professional environment with great ambience and appeal to its target market. From the salon location to the floor plan to the finishes, all aspects of the salon will be considered to identify the winner. This award is open to a new salon or complete salon refurbishment.

Winner 2009: Cranium Hair

Hall of Fame

This is ultimate peer recognition awarded to the person who has made an outstanding contribution to the Australian or New Zealand hairdressing industry throughout his or her career.

Awards' finalists announced
